About PHDS
Owner

Hello, my name is Tom Gross and I'm doing business as PHDS.  I officially started the business May 15, 1999 but I've been involved with the Harley-Davidson world for quite some time.  I've been riding ever since I took delivery of a brand new '79 XLH back when I was in the Air Force.  I loved working on my own bikes so much I decided to attend the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute from '86 to '87 taking the Basic Career, Advanced Class, and Harley-Davidson Factory Elective of which I graduated Top Student.  After working for Downtown Harley-Davidson in Seattle, WA and Kutter Harley-Davidson in Janesville, WI I qualifed to become an instructor.  In 1993, MMI hired me to teach in its Late Model Harley-Davidson Engine Section.  During my time with dealerships and MMI I also took advantage of special training through Harley-Davidson's PHD Service Training Program.  I left MMI and started PHDS out of my garage to fulfill my dream of opening my own shop.  Business grew to the point where I moved into a business park where I've been for a little over seven years now.  I've also taken classes at Glendale Community College and have earned an Associates Degree in Electronics Manufacturing Technology, and I'm not done yet.  I'm a perfectionist and it shows in my work.  I believe that if I put everything I possibly can into a job everyone wins.  There's a scripture that sums it all up: "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it will all your might, for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going" Ecclesiastes 9:10.  Currently my shop labor rate is $50.00, almost half of what a dealership would charge.  I can do it all, from creating a ground-up custom to providing factory correct servicing.  I'm going to expand the business and move into a larger building in the near future to better serve my customers which will also feature a new dyno.  If you need references, I've got them.  Pick-up and delivery service is also available.  God bless and ride safe.
